Before parents bring a newborn for a newborn portrait session, I send a list of helpful tips to make the session the best possible experience. Almost all parents follow the tips to the letter, and it generally means we have a sleepy baby. And sometimes parents do every single thing I suggest, but we have a seven pound bundle of wide-awake energy.
And that’s what happened with JW.
JW refused to go to sleep. Absolutely refused. We got wonderful images of him looking lovingly at my camera, but the one shot that his mom really, really wanted–the shot where it looks like the baby is holding his head in his hands–requires the baby to be fast asleep. I told JW’s mom that I’d be willing to do a reshoot if she would be willing to come back. So she did, and I did.
And we got it.
